Don’t
Optimizing a website can be a daunting task if you run into certain problems that you are not aware of. Getting ranked well in the search engines is actually a pretty easy task but some known issues can hinder your SEO efforts. When designing your website try to avoid using techniques that will make your job as a webmaster any harder than it already is. We have compiled a list of some of the well known web design issues.

Site with Flash Design (All Pages Design in Flash)
Pages that are designed pure flash typically have a problem getting ranked well in the search engines. This is due to not having enough content that can be spidered. Crawler-based search engines were primarily designed to index HTML text and have a hard time following links in flash therefore the pages may not get indexed. Some search engines such as FAST and Google claim that they can now index sites using Flash.

Site with Dynamic URLs
Dynamic web pages have historically been an obstacle for webmasters to deal with. The benefits of using dynamic URLs is obvious so a work-around is necessary as the depth a spider crawls your site is crucial to maximizing your organic search engine listings. Search engines have problems indexing dynamic web pages due to the URL having multiply variables (i.e.? =, &,). Some search engine crawlers do not follow these dynamic URLs. AltaVista and Inktomi are two engines that are affected by this.

Site with Frames
If the site uses frames the problem lies in where the actual code is. Framed sites place content within frame sets, rather than directly in the code of the page, search engine spiders have a much more difficult time reading and indexing the content of a framed web site.
Search engine spiders are programmed to read text only within your webpage's, therefore with a typical framed site, there is no body text for the search engine's spider to index, because the pages content is all on another page.

JavaScript can do many cool things for your website. The functionality gained by using JavaScript is obvious but issues brought with it should concern. If you are using JavaScript as a navigational system for your site then you've got problems ahead. Search engine crawlers may have serious problems crawling your website or at least following the JavaScript links within your navigation. Links that you have set up within your JavaScript navigation will more than likely be ignored by the search engines.

Mirror Sites

A doc type (short for 'document type declaration') informs the validator which version of (X) HTML you're using, and must appear at the very top of every web page. Doc types are a key component of compliant web pages: your markup and CSS won't validate without them.

Your navigation system should give your visitor a clue as to what page of the site they are currently on and where they can go next. If each page on your site has a consistent style of presentation, visitors will find it easier to navigate between pages and find information.

Site maps are at the core of SEO design. They normally link from your homepage/index page and contain a link to all of your websites internal pages. These makes it very easy for the searches engines to crawl your site and index all of your pages. A Site Map Should
 
  1. Be linked to from every page on your site, especially your index page.
  2. Use the keywords of the page you are linking to in the anchor text.
  3. Provide a link to every page of the site.

  5. Not use JavaScript. Search engine crawlers can have a more difficult time seeing JavaScript. Make sure that the links are created as plain text links!

  7. Don’t convert text links into image link.
